Above Cacilhas, the old centre of Almada is a small grid of low houses, churches and viewpoints that most visitors miss entirely on their way to the ferry. A panoramic lift connects it to the riverside below.
The old town
A handful of quiet streets around the Igreja da Misericórdia and the ruins of the medieval castle, with miradouros looking straight across at Lisbon. It is a ten-minute wander, worth it for the views and the near-total absence of crowds.
Elevador da Boca do Vento
A glass lift drops about 50 metres down the cliff face from the old town to the Jardim do Rio and the start of the Ginjal walk. Free to ride, and a quick way to link the upper town with the river.
Ponto Final
A short walk along the Ginjal from the foot of the lift, Ponto Final serves simple grilled fish and shellfish rice at yellow tables set out on an old stone pier, right at the water’s edge — one of the closest views of the 25 de Abril bridge you’ll get without being on it. Tables fill fast, especially at sunset.
