Costa da Caparica is the long stretch of Atlantic beach just south of Lisbon — wide open sand, good surf, and a string of beach bars that stay busy from spring to autumn.
The beaches
The town beaches are easy to reach on foot. For the quieter, wilder stretches, take the little summer train (Transpraia) that runs along the dunes to the southern beaches.
Eating
Grilled fish and seafood everywhere. The marisqueiras near the harbour are the real thing; the beach bars are better for a drink at sunset than a full meal.
Getting around
- Lisbon is about 20–30 minutes by car over the 25 de Abril bridge
- Ferry from Cacilhas + bus is the car-free option
- Fonte da Telha, at the south end, is worth the trip for a long lunch
