The Cova Tallada is a large cave on the shore of the Montgó park, between Dénia and Xàbia — part natural, part cut by hand for its stone, with pools you can wade and swim in and an opening straight onto the sea.
Getting there
The usual way is on foot from the end of the Les Rotes road: a path of about 45 minutes each way, rocky and exposed in the last stretch, with a short scramble down to the cave. Not for flip-flops, and hard going in the heat. It can also be reached by kayak or on a boat trip.
Access is limited
In the busy months the cave is on a permit system — a capped number of visitors a day, booked in advance through the regional environment department, and closed or restricted when the sea is rough. Check the current rules before you build a day around it; outside the peak season it is usually open without a permit.
Good to know
- Take water, proper shoes, and a head-torch to see into the back of the cave
- No facilities at all on the walk or at the cave
- The permit, when required, is free but goes quickly in July and August
- The path starts about 15 minutes from our villa, at the far end of Les Rotes
