Two easy outings close to Dénia that don’t involve a mountain: a flat former railway line for walking and cycling, and a short climb to a watchtower above the sea.
Vía Verde de Dénia
The Vía Verde follows the bed of an old narrow-gauge railway inland from Dénia toward the villages of the Marina Alta. It is flat, unpaved but smooth, shaded in stretches, and works for bikes, buggies and an easy stroll. Do as much or as little of it as you like, and turn back when you want.
Torre del Gerro
A sixteenth-century watchtower on the cliffs above Les Rotes, one of the coastal towers built to warn against pirates. A marked path climbs to it in twenty to thirty minutes from the end of the Les Rotes road; the view runs from Dénia around to the Montgó and the open sea.
Good to know
- Bikes can be hired in Dénia; the Vía Verde starts near the old station
- The Torre del Gerro path is short but rocky and unshaded — morning or late afternoon
