Fonte da Telha is the small beach village at the southern end of the Costa da Caparica coast, where the built-up seafront gives way to dunes and pine. It’s the closest beach to our apartment — about ten minutes by car.
The beach
A wide, open stretch of Atlantic sand backed by low cliffs and dunes. The water is cold and there’s usually surf. Walk south and it empties out quickly; parts of the far end are unofficially naturist.
Eating
A line of wooden restaurants and beach bars sits right on the sand — grilled fish, rice, a beer in the afternoon. Nothing fancy; you go for the setting and the seafood.
Getting there
- About 10 minutes by car from our apartment; there’s a large sand car park behind the beach
- In summer the Transpraia narrow-gauge train runs down the dunes from Costa da Caparica town
- The access road is steep and can be slow on summer weekends — go early
